Janie Manuel Obituary

Janie Lee Manuel, age 92 passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 13, 2020 at the Hinkle Hospice House. Janie was born July 24, 1927 in Thomasville, NC. She was the youngest of four children born to George Hill Lee and Bessie Bevan Lee.

She graduated from Fair Grove, and attended Ashmore Business School. Her first job was a rural mail carrier for the Thomasville Post Office, where she was the first female post carrier for the post office. She was a member at Fair Grove United Methodist Church, and nothing was more important to Janie than her faith, she served many roles, including teaching Sunday School to participating in the Methodist women’s group. She was also a member of the Thomasville Woman’s Club, where she participated in fashion modeling. Janie had an intense passion for growing and arranging flowers, as well as baking cakes. Many will remember Janie with a smile that could light up a room, and her ability to give the best advice every time it was needed. One thing about Janie is that she never met a stranger, she loved people and loved talking.

Janie is survived by her son George Edward (Eddie) Manuel and wife Elisha Manuel; her daughter Janice Lee Manuel; one grandson, George (Hayden) Manuel, all of Thomasville. She also leaves behind an angel that became her friend and caregiver, Kristen M. Ballew and her family of whom she resided with in the months prior to going into Hospice care.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Edward Manuel; her parents, George Hill Lee and Bessie Bevan Lee; her sister, Margaret Lee Schafer; two brothers, Freddie Lee and Bill Lee.

Her caregiver would like to thank all of the staff at the Hinkle Hospice House, as well as her care team from Advanced Home Care for their unending affection, kindness, and compassion for her, it meant more then they will ever know!
