Jerome Amos Obituary

On the evening of May 23, 2026, heaven gained a very special person, Jerome Taylor Amos. Knowing Jerome, he wanted to arrive singing, with his gorgeous bass voice, some favorite tunes; like “Jail House Rock” or “The Devil Went Down to Georgia”. The angels gave Jerome a few moments to settle in with a hot cup of coffee and he was ready for his homecoming party to begin.

He was born August 18, 1956 to the late Francis Taylor Amos and Patsy Lee Moran in Guilford County. On February 25, 1994, Jerome married the love of his life, Lucinda Sharpe, his “Sweetpea”. Married for 32 years, there was no greater love than the love they had for each other. Lucinda and Jerome eloped to York, SC, just like Jerome’s parents had many years earlier. To commemorate their wedding trip, they bought an ACC basketball, as their first wedding gift to each other. While waiting for the justice of the peace to get off work, they chose chicken livers from KFC as their first meal as a married couple. “Rome” as Lucinda called him, knew in order to have a happy marriage, he knew to say from the beginning “Yes Dear”.

Jerome loved his God and his country. His loyalty to both was evident in his everyday walk of life. He was witty, making the best of all situations, and was ready to lend a hand wherever needed. Jerome had another side as well. He was quite the match maker, loved to hold up “bunny ear” fingers, and make funny faces while sticking out his tongue. However, he took great delight in teaching a little child the phrase “pull my finger” and he would always chuckle when he said the phrase. It would not do to forget to mention, his great love for his cats. It didn’t matter how many cats sat in “Daddy’s” lap; there was always room for one more.

Jerome was a quiet man until you saw his comical side. He had a love for an orange Camaro and one day he decided to allow his sister to drive. He told her to “stomp on the gas”, and she did. However, it wasn’t Joan’s fault what happened next – it will always remain a secret between the two of them. After all, she was being the obedient big sister and cheerleader.

All through Lucinda and Jerome’s married life, Jerome made a certain statement very clear, that no one was ever going to say or do anything to his “Sweetpea” as long as he lived. There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that “Rome and Sweetpea” were a match made in heaven. Jerome you will always hold a special place in every heart you have touched.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 32 wonderful years, Lucinda Sharpe Amos of the home; his sister, Joan Amos Kennedy; a niece, Lea Kennedy Richardson (Michael); a nephew, Seth Kennedy (Sandra); great-nieces and nephews, Zoe Richardson Franck (Eli), Sid Kennedy, Percy Kennedy, Dylan Richardson; special cousins, Mark Moran (Mitzie) and Alan Moran (Sandy); special extended family, Ellen Veach, Andrew Veach (Brittany), Estella Veach; five beloved kitty cats.
