Mr. Jerry Wilson Clinard, 81, of Clemmons, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at the Kate
B. Reynolds Hospice Home, Winston-Salem, N.C. He was born on June 20, 1942, in Davidson
County, Thomasville, N.C. to the late Woodrow Wilson Clinard and Mary Guin Clinard and was
of the Baptist faith. On August 17, 1963, he married Betty Sullivan, who survives of the home;
also surviving is a daughter, Mandy Clinard Messer and son-in-law Roy Messer, of Mint Hill, N.C.
He graduated from Pilot High School and attended New Port News Shipbuilding and as part of
its curriculum, he participated in building of the Enterprise; afterwards he was employed by
Thomasville Furniture Industries and was selected to be a part of a four-year journeyman
program by the N.C. Department of Labor. He retired from Thomasville Furniture Industries
after 45 years of service.
He loved his church and through the years was very active serving on just about every
committee from Sunday School Superintendent (as it was called back then), Sunday School
Teacher, Deacon (serving as chairman on several occasions), Finance, Nominating, By-Laws,
Adult Choir, and others.
Jerry loved life and people. While at Pilot High School, he was chosen by his classmates as
having the “Best Personality” and “Best All Around.” He was part of the Pilot Volunteer Fire
Department, where he served in many capacities. He enjoyed farming, working in his yard,
being outdoors, and playing the game of golf. In the late 80’s, he was becoming an avid golfer.
He succeeded in getting his wife to love the game and they began playing in couple
tournaments at their local club as well as at playing in their favorite “Mixer in the Mountain”
event at the Waynesville Country Club and Inn.
We want to say a special thank you to the Williams Wing at Kate B. Reynold Hospice Home for
their care and compassion they gave to Jerry.
