Jo Strickland Jones

Mrs. Jo Strickland Jones, 91, passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at the Piedmont Crossing Retirement Community.  She was born on August 18, 1934 in Avery County, NC to John Strickland and Gladys Annie Wilson Strickland.  She was a 1953 graduate of High Point Central High School.  She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church, where she served on the Art Committee, Missions Committee, and Staff/Parish Committee.  She volunteered at the Red Cross, CCM in Thomasville, and delivered Meals on Wheels.  She was an avid Bridge player and was a member of several bridge clubs during her lifetime.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lee Jones on July 19, 2015, whom she married on March 9, 1957; her sisters, Sarah Strickland Edwards, Della Ann Strickland, and Mary Kathleen Strickland; and her brother, John Strickland.

Surviving is her daughter Leigh Bonifay and husband Cam of Lexington; her son, Frank Jones of Winston-Salem; grandchildren, Ryan Bonifay and wife Catherine, Michael Bonifay and wife Shelby, Anna Bonifay, Zachary Jones, Preston Jones, Rachel Hayes and husband Bradley, Jonathan Bonifay, Josh Bonifay and wife Tiffany and Jennifer Giovannoni and husband Paul; and 6 great-grandchildren. 

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2025 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel at Memorial United Methodist Church with Reverend Danny Leonard officiating.  The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 23, 2025 immediately following the service in the Christian Enrichment Center at the church.  Inurnment will be private.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Memorial UMC, PO Box 428, Thomasville, NC 27361, or to Crossnore Communities for Children, 1001 Reynolda Rd.
