Joann Joyce Obituary

Ms. Joann Boyd Schaefer Joyce, 94, a resident of Thomasville passed away Sunday morning, October 26, 2025, at Beacon Place in Greensboro. She was born on June 11, 1931, in Forsyth County to her parents, the late Novelia Celestia Carroll and Boyd Mott Schaefer. Joann was a graduate of Reynolds High School and Brevard College. She was a stay-at-home mom, which she always said was the highlight of her life. Afterwards, she worked as a bookkeeper at Holly Hill Memorial Park for 19 years. Joann was a longtime member of Memorial United Methodist Church in Thomasville. She was a member of Methodist Women, a Sunday School teacher, a member of The Thomasville Woman’s Club, the Xi Alpha Sigma Sorority, a member of the Magnolia Garden Club, Bridge Club and Thomasville Beautification Committee. She co-chaired development of a campus natural park at Davidson County Community, which was recognized by the governor and Miss North Carolina. Joann loved her flowers and tending to her yard work. She often referred to it as “her therapy” and loved frequent trips outdoors. On August 2, 1952, she married Billy Fetzer Joyce, who preceded her in death in 2010. Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Joyce; and one sister, Dolores Johnson.

She is survived by her three beloved children, William David Joyce of Thomasville, Deborah Kincaid and husband Richard of Burlington, and Marcus Joyce of Winston Salem; seven beloved grandchildren, Christopher Joyce of Winston Salem, Justin Joyce and wife Juli of Charlotte, Kristen Bowman of Burlington, Brad and Tori Bowman of Charlotte, MacKenzie Pirolozzi and husband Brian, Madison Jackson and Clark Jackson and Heath Joyce; one sister, Barbara Phillips; seven great-grandchildren; her daughter-in-law, Lisa Joyce; and many nieces and nephews. Joann will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville, with Rev. Steve Manley officiating. Entombment will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum.
