Mr. John Richard Christiansen, 85, a resident of Thomasville, passed away Saturday afternoon, November 8, 2025, at High Point Regional Hospital. John was born February 26, 1940, in Oneida County, New York, to his parents, the late William Peter Christiansen and Lena Miani Christiansen. On October 10, 1959, John married Carol Wohnsen and they enjoyed 66 years as husband and wife. John was an insurance salesman and prior to their move to Thomasville, NC in the fall of 1980, John and Carol lived in Snellville, GA and thoroughly enjoyed the sense of community there. John was a Gideon and was able to share God’s love with people for 35 years thru their organization. He attended Trinity Baptist Church and over the years was a Sunday School teacher, Deacon and was active with various committees in the churches he was affiliated with. John was also a member of the Sauquoit 150 NY Masonic Lodge for 60 years. John enjoyed gardening and reading books in his spare time, but most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him.
In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by three brothers, William Christiansen, James Christiansen, Douglas Christiansen, Joseph Christiansen; two brothers-in-law, Gary Dunham, Thomas Sokolowski; a grandson, Joshua Christiansen; a nephew, Frank Christiansen
Left to cherish John’s memory is his wife, Carol Wohnsen Christiansen of the home; his daughter, Kim Hedrick and husband Joe; three sons, Jeff Christiansen, Eric Christiansen and wife Sheila, Carl Christiansen and wife Rachel; eight grandchildren. Michael Hedrick, Nicholas Christiansen and wife Brianna, Adam Christiansen, Kasey Christiansen, Andrew Christiansen and wife Keri, Alyssa Pugh and husband Joseph, Zachary Christiansen and wife Olivia, Santana Christiansen; twelve great-grandchildren, Callie Hedrick, Landon Christiansen, Kayden Roberts, Emma Grace Christiansen, Decklan Christiansen, Addilyn Pugh, Grayson Christiansen, Karley Royall, Farrah Christiansen, Beckett Pugh, Sophia Christiansen, James Christiansen; seven siblings and their spouses, Elizabeth Christiansen, Norma Christiansen, Kenneth and Ellen Christiansen, Richard and Mary Christiansen, Joan Marie Sokolowski, Ellen Christiansen, Mary Dunham, Peter and Marge Christiansen.
A funeral service to honor John’s life will be held Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at 11:00 AM at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with Pastor Joe Hedrick officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Tuesday evening, November 11, 2025, from 6 PM – 8 PM at the Funeral Home.
