Mr. John “J.L.” Lee Cooper, 77, of Welcome passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at Moses H. Cone Hospital in Greensboro.
John was born March 27, 1944 to the late Jonah Lee Cooper and Mavereen Leonard Cooper in Davidson County. He served his country in the United States National Guard. John was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church in Lexington. He served as a Sargent for the Thomasville Police Department for 10 years. John also owned and operated Cooper Self Storage and Cooper Auto Sales. He always enjoyed working on and showing antique cars, and going to car shows.
Surviving is his wife of 51 years, Linda Hiott Cooper of the home; a son, Scott Cooper and wife Andrea of Lexington; a sister, Cathy Hunt and husband Darrell of Thomasville; three grandsons, Alexander Scott Cooper, Bryson Daniel Cooper, Chevy Michael Davis; a sister-in-law, Sandra Elliott and husband Sam of Rimini, SC; extended friends and family.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Bethesda United Methodist Church in Lexington with Rev. Rick LeBaube officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends following the committal at the cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the church, 2922 Bethesda Road, Lexington, NC 27295.
