Joseph Courtney Willard Halker, 79, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2025, at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born on November 6, 1945, to the late Prudence Cecil and Courtney Halker of Thomasville, NC. Joseph graduated from Ledford High School in 1963 and was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1965. He worked in the furniture industry in High Point and Thomasville for his entire career and later owned a small furniture factory in Thomasville.

Joseph was a devoted member of Pleasant Grove Methodist Church in Thomasville, where he served on various committees, taught Sunday School, was a youth counselor, assisted with food distribution at the church pantry, and served as a trustee. He loved spending time with family and friends and especially enjoyed deep-sea fishing. His favorite person on Earth was his grandson, Samuel Wyatt Halker, whom he proudly spoke of to anyone who would listen.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Timothy Halker.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Petra Meredith Halker; his son, Bryan Joseph Halker, and Bryan’s wife, Jessica; and their son, Samuel, all of Linwood, NC. He is also survived by his siblings: Penny Kennedy of Thomasville; Becky Crowson (Gilbert) of Winston-Salem; Chris Halker (Vicki) of Thomasville; Judy Halker of New Bern; Abigail Wilson (Howard) of Garland; Robert Halker (Susan) of High Point; Martin Halker of Thomasville; Stephanie Tysinger of High Point; Andrea Spurgeon (Barry) of High Point; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Methodist Church, 1393 Hasty School Road, Thomasville, NC. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Kennedy Christian Life Center at Pleasant Grove. Burial of cremains will immediately follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Pleasant Grove Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1049, Thomasville, NC 27361.
