Joseph Steven "Steve" Mayes Sr.

   Mr. Joseph Steven ‘Steve’ Mayes, Sr., 65, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday morning, April 15, 2021 after an extended illness, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on May 19, 1955 in Forsyth County to the late John Edgar and Jacqueline Everhart Mayes. Steve was a simple man who loved playing golf and spending time with family. He was a retired technician with Clarios, formerly Johnson Controls, in Kernersville.   In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his brother, George Mayes.   Surviving is his wife of 47 years, Cheryl Wright Mayes of the home; daughter, Shanda McMinn and husband Steven of Lexington; twin sons, Joseph, Jr. and Justin Mayes of the home; brothers, John Mayes, Jr. and James Mayes; and sisters, Judy Smith, Vicky Everhart, and Tiny Ellis.   A graveside service will be held at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 11a.m. with Rev. Roy Cantrell officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 16, 2021 at J.C.
