Karissa Wilkins Obituary

Karissa Sherelle Baxter Wilkins, lovingly known as Kari to her friends and family, brightened the world with her presence on June 2, 1979, in Thomasville, North Carolina. With a spirit as radiant as the sunflowers she cherished, Karissa’s journey on this earth concluded peacefully on February 16, 2026, at the age of 46.

A proud graduate of Thomasville High School class of 1997 and of UNC Greensboro class of 2006, Karissa devoted her intellect and passion to a flourishing career in real estate and finance. Her life was a vibrant tapestry adorned with fierce loyalty to the Carolina Tar Heels and an unwavering team spirit. Karissa's culinary talents were matched only by her exquisite sense of style; through cooking and shopping, she spread joy to all around her.

As a member of Parkside Church of God of Prophecy, her faith guided her. Karissa’s love for her family was boundless. She is survived by her devoted husband of 17 years, Christian Wilkins, who lives in Roper, NC, along with her parents, Minnie and Robert Baxter of Thomasville, NC, who laid the foundation of her life. Her siblings, Robert Baxter, Jr., and his wife Sheila of Thomasville, NC; Natasha Gill and her husband Brent of Greensboro, NC; Stacey Baxter and his wife Yolanda of Stokesdale, NC; and many others will miss her dearly.

Karissa was a cherished figure among her nieces and nephews: Darius (Jessica) Baxter, Jada Gill, Paris Smalls, Aniyah Williams, Rahmel Shuler, Justin Lawson, Michael Mclean, and Letron Lawson. They will carry forward her joyous spirit and loving guidance. Her godchildren, Chantell Blackwell and Chantez Whitaker, had a special place in her heart. Her special cousin LaDonna Cotton played a significant role in Karissa’s life. Karissa was a beloved family member to her in-laws, Clinton and Jauntee Wilkins, as well as a treasured presence in her extended family of numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family will greet friends on Friday, February 20, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home and at the Baxter home at other times. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the J.C. Green and Sons Chapel in Thomasville, officiated by Pastor James E. McLendon. Burial will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Thomasville, with a repast thereafter at High Point Church of God of Prophecy, 211 N Ward Ave.
