Kenneth John Oakes

Major Kenneth John Oakes, 74, a resident of Thomasville passed away on Friday, July 24, 2020 at Pelican Health. He was born in Chicago, Illinois to Glenn Oakes and Ruth V. Greek Oakes. Mr. Oakes served in United States Army and served in The Salvation Army from 1993 to 2011 upon his retirement. He was a Corp Officer and Administrator for The Salvation Army and served as a Hospice Chaplain for many years. Kenneth loved his family dearly and in his younger years, he was an avid fisherman. He is preceded in death by his father, Glenn Oakes and brother, Greg Oakes.

Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Mary Oakes of the home; mother, Ruth V. Greek Oakes of Illinois; one son, Johan Oakes of New York; four daughters, Michelle Reynolds and husband Aaron of Illinois, Amy Pijarowski and husband Mike of Indiana, Bobbie Oakes of  North Carolina; and Darling Hoyos and husband Nestor of New York; three grandchildren, Ethan Reynolds, Reese Reynolds, and Joshua Pijarowski; one sister, Beth Heath and husband Dave of Washington; and sister-in-law, Sandy Oakes. 

A visitation will be held at the JC Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville on Saturday, August 1, 2020 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Burial will be held at the Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC on Monday, August 3, 2020 at 10:00 AM.
