Lane Sherrill Gilbert, Jr.

Lane Sherrill Gilbert, Jr., 78, of Thomasville passed away Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Magnolia Gardens of Thomasville.

Lane was born August 30, 1946, to the late Lane Sherrill Gilbert, Sr. and Margaret Pauline Coke of Guilford County. He served his country in the United States Air Force, retired as a MSgt with a 24-year career as a substance abuse counselor. Lane was stationed all over the world and served during the Vietnam Era. In addition to his military service, he was a 3rd degree black belt in Aikido, he loved to make people laugh with his magic tricks, he owned his own pool table repair company, and even though he was invited to leave high school during the 9th grade, he completed his Bachelors in Psychology from Park College. Lane lived life fearlessly, joyfully, and many had good laughs that his family will always cherish.

In addition to his parents, Lane was preceded in death by his sister, Diana Louise Buffalo.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Johanna Bell Gilbert of the home; his two beloved children, Jesse Gilbert and wife Tamara of Thomasville, Jena Williams and husband Roger of Fort Mill, SC; five grandchildren, Ryan Williams and wife Dessie, Jacob Gilbert, Adam Gilbert, Dane Williams, Danielle Williams; a sister, Patricia “Lynn” Allred and husband Cecil of Summerfield; several nieces and nephews; and Ace and Noosa Dawood who cared for Lane unconditionally.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the J.C. Green and Sons Chapel in Thomasville. The family will greet friends from 12:30 to 1:30 PM prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment with military honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
