Laverne Williams Obituary

Mr. Laverne Bennett Williams, 79, a resident of Thomasville, passed away on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at his home. He was born on January 17, 1942 in Anson County to the late Ellis Williams and Armantine Bailey Hunt. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Thomasville.

Laverne was proud of his family and it was always the first thing he would tell people. He would always tell everyone about the 16 siblings he had. 8 brothers, 6 sisters, he would say, because 1 brother passed away at birth and the other 1 being himself for a total of 16.

He was a carpenter by trade. He was a master cabinet builder who owned his own business, Sailfish Custom Cabinets. He built cabinets for a lot of folks but he also made a lot of cabinetry for the furniture market, Food Lion, and he even shipped cabinets overseas to Saudi Arabia. He always loved working with his hands and helping other people. He was a very generous, always giving out candy to church members and always quick to tell people he loved them.

Laverne loved fishing at Lake Thom-a-Lex with his friends and family. He customized his little john boat with a beach umbrella to stay out of the sun. It was always a given who was out on the water. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed making homemade fudge, pecan pies and playing pool on the old Nintendo. One of his favorite sayings was “the squeaky wheel always gets the grease”

Surviving are his wife of almost 59 years, Lois Flannery Williams of the home, one daughter, Tammy Wray and husband Buddy of Thomasville; one son, Eric Bennett Williams and wife Angie of Reidsville; five grandchildren, Ricky Wray, Christa Wray, Ethan Williams, Briana Williams, and Joseph Robertson; three brothers, Ray Williams, James Williams, Alvin Williams; and one sister, Allie Newton.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery, 225 Liberty Ave., Thomasville, NC 27360 with Rev. David Bowman officiating. The family will greet friends following the service in the church cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.jcgreenandsons.com
