Leona (Sechriest) Murphy

Leona Sechriest Murphy, 92, of Thomasville went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at the home of her daughter.

Leona was born on April 10, 1928 to the late David Franklin Sechriest and Era Hughes Sechriest in Davidson County. She was a member of Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church in Thomasville.

In addition to her parents, Leona was preceded in death by her husband, Julian Reginald Murphy in 2006; two brothers, Roy and Tommy. Surviving are her two sons, David Murphy (Jill), Rodger Murphy; four daughters, Pat McDaniels, Debbie Swaim (Steve), Sandra Hawley (Rick), Sharon Whitley (Tim); a brother, Bobby Sechriest; ten grandchildren; Rob McDaniels, Brian Swaim, Kevin Swaim, Brandon Murphy, Josh Murphy, Jamie Murphy, Chris Whitley, Stephanie Whitley, Chastity Pifer, Ryan Murphy; thirteen great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the J.C. Green and Sons Chapel in Thomasville with Rev. Wilson Harris officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park in Thomasville. There will be no formal visitation. Mrs. Murphy will lie in repose on Tuesday, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the funeral home.
