Luther Monroe Yow, 83, died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on August 24, 2025. He was predeceased by his parents, George Alan and Dorothy Pritchard Yow, sisters, Jeanette Yow and Brenda Yow Nichols and brother, Larry Yow. Born March 17, 1942, in Asheboro, NC, he graduated from Randleman High School in 1960 and served in the USAF from 1961-1965. On April 6, 1963, he was married to the former Sandra Bowers and from this union were born two sons whom he cherished, James Monroe Yow and Steven Andrew Yow. He was employed as a furniture fabric sales representative before opening 1502 Fabrics in 1981. Monroe loved working in the fabric business and especially working side by side with his sons and grandsons. Monroe enjoyed attending NASCAR races, playing pinochle, spending time at High Rock Lake with friends and family, and traveling the world with Sandra. He was a member of Zion Church and Zion 60+ club.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sandra B. Yow; sons, Jim (Mary), Steve (Stacy), grandchildren, Corey, Sarah, Chris and Berkley and three great-grandchildren, Kinsley, Iris, and Enzo. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and he will be greatly missed.
Services will be held at Zion Church on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at 2:30 PM with Rev. Josh Sands officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends prior to the service at the church from 1:00 PM until 2:15 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be sent to Zion Church at 130 Hasty School Rd, Thomasville, NC 27360, Attn: Hasty Elementary Backpack Program.
