Mackdee Thomas Essick, Jr.

Mr. Mackdee “Tommy” Thomas Essick, Jr., age 69, a resident of Wedgewood Dr. passed away Friday, January 8, 2021 in Kernersville Medical Center. He was born July 12, 1951 in Guilford County, NC, the son of the late Mackdee Thomas Essick, Sr. and Viola Davis Essick. Mr. Essick served in the US Navy and was a Auto Mechanic for more than forty years and was currently working with Randalls Tire Pro. He was a member of Friendly Gospel Baptist Church and was very much involved with the music at the church. Tommy was a big fan of of Blue Grass Music. He loved his family and chocolate cake. For twenty years he was the manager of the gospel group Sacred Ground. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Debbie Stover. Mr. Essick was married Dec. 12, 1992 to Margaret Biggs Essick who survives of the home. Also surviving is one step-daughter, Renea Barker of Thomasville; two sons, Tony Essick of Greensboro and Conny Ray Essick of Spencer; three brothers, Terry Essick of Lexington, Curtis Essick of Randleman, and Donnie Kelly of Greensboro; two grandsons, Caleb Teetor of Lexington and Dylan Essick of Kernersville; one great granddaughter, McKenzie “Skeeter” Teetor.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 11, 2021 at 3:00 PM at Friendly Gospel Baptist Church with Rev. Darrell Summey officiating. The interment will follow in the church cemetery.
