Mamie Geneva (Payne) Lovingood

Mrs. Mamie “Geneva” Payne Lovingood, passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2021. She was born on August 23, 1926 in Cherokee County to the late John Payne and Belle Gibby Payne.

 She was a homemaker who loved and cared for her family faithfully. Mamie was a member of Gospel Light Independent Freewill Baptist Church. She enjoyed singing and playing the guitar, and also taught her children to play the guitar. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Eulice Grant Lovingood; infant daughters, Margaret and Deanna Lovingood; daughter, Ima Jean Thomas; sons, Marvin, Marlin, and Danny Lovingood; and several brothers and sisters.

Surviving are her two daughters, Ann Shortt and husband Alan of Thomasville and Brenda Kirkus and husband Kenny of Lexington; sons, Bobby Lovingood and wife Sharon of Thomasville and Jerry Lovingood and wife Patricia of Thomasville; 22 grandchildren, James, Chrissy, Tracy, Wendy, Randy, Tabitha, Benji, Tina, Tammy, Allen, Melanie, Shannon, Stevie, Scottie, Jennifer, Krystal, Jeffery, Christy, Chantilly, Samuel, Stacy, and Stephanie; numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and great-great-great grandchildren.

A viewing will be held Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at J. C. Green and Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville from 6:00-8:00 PM, and a celebration of life service in the chapel on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at 2:00 PM with Reverend James Shetley officiating. An interment will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Gospel Light Independent Freewill Baptist Church at 4014 Ball Park Rd.
