Marjorie Payne Livengood Obituary

Marjorie Payne Livengood, 98, of 154 Mayclare Road, Thomasville passed gently into the arms of her Savior Friday morning, August 22, 2025.

She was born June 7, 1927 in Winston-Salem, NC to Elsie Vaughn Payne Ritter and Harold Burton Payne. Marjorie was a graduate of Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem and Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory. She was happily married for 66 years to the late David Langston Livengood, and was blessed with three wonderful sons.

Marjorie and David moved to Thomasville in 1955 and became faithful members of First Baptist Church. She was a member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class and the Blanche Godfrey Circle.

She worked in the office of Thomasville Furniture Company and retired in 1989, meeting many wonderful friends there. She was a charter member of Fairview Stitchers, and was active in the group for over fifty years. She loved doing hand work.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband David, grandson, Clay Wilson Livengood and great granddaughter, Charlotte Hannah (Charley) Segers, her sister Edythe Payne Reed (Durward) of Hertford, NC, and a special cousin, Grace Mildred Grubbs of Chester, Virginia,

Surviving are her three children, David Gregory Livengood (Cindy), Bradley Burton Livengood (Karen), and Lane Edward Livengood (Tina), three grandchildren, David Luke Livengood (Jessica), Kristen Livengood Segers (Brian), and Caleb Ryan Livengood, three step-grandchildren, Paul Howard Hibbett III (Pam), Jenny Hibbett Murphy (Chris), and Seth Andrew Hibbett (Alona), two great grandchildren, David Weston Livengood and Jackson Luke Livengood, four great step-grandchildren, Paul Howard Hibbett IV, Penelope Alma Hibbett, Claire Elizabeth Murphy, and Nora Rose Murphy, a dear sister-in-law, Carolyn Young Livengood, and many nieces and nephews.

The Apostle Paul told the Galatians to “walk by the spirit,” and to exhibit qualities or fruits of the spirit in their daily life. Marjorie was a living reflection of those fruits from Galatians 5:22-23: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Her life was a light to all who knew her.
