Ms. Mary Ann Hodgin, 89, a resident of Jamestown, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at her home. She was born on December 16, 1936 in Thomasville to her parents, the late Madeline Owen Hodgin and Oscar Monroe Hodgin. Mary grew up in Jamestown, graduating from Jamestown High School in 1955. After High School, she graduated from High Point College in 1959 with an AB degree in Elementary Education and then completed her Master’s program in education from Appalachian State University in 1962. She was a longtime member of Jamestown United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School 5th graders for 25 years and sung in the choir since the age of 17.
Mary Ann taught for 30 years with the High Point City School System, teaching at Oak View Elem. for 12 years, Shadybrook Elem. for 4 years, Northwood Elem. for 2 years, Oak Hill Elem. for 10 years, and Ferndale Middle for 2 years. Civically, she was a part of the Business & Professional Women’s Club, Direct Elect High Point Club (President for 3 years), District Direct, North area Vice President of the NC Business & Professional Women’s Club, and a member of the Thomasville Business & Professional Women’s Club. In her younger years, she was an avid traveler visiting several beautiful places and countries all over the world.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Fairy Hodgin Wardell; and an infant brother.
Surviving are her two nieces, Cindy Wardell Parker of Kernersville, and Susan Wardell Beaman and husband Barry of Tyler, Texas; three great-nieces/nephews, Sheena McCandless Blakely, Stephanie Beaman Kennedy, and John Beaman; great-great-nieces, Harper Blakely and Hollyn Kennedy; and a host of extended family, friends, and her church family.
A funeral service will be held on February 14, 2026 at 2:30 PM at Jamestown United Methodist Church with Rev. David Greene officiating. The family will greet friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:15 PM at the church. She will be laid to rest at Unity United Methodist Church Cemetery in Thomasville.
