Mary Bessie Edwards Carter Obituary

Mrs. Mary Bessie Edwards Carter, 90, of Thomasville, passed away on Friday, June 27, 2025 at her home.  She was born on September 13, 1934 in Unicoi County, TN to Floyd Edwards and Elva Tilson Edwards.  She was a homemaker and a faithful member of Faith Community Chapel, where she was faithful in prayer.  She enjoyed birds, flowers, cooking, and enjoyed most of all spending time with her family and grandchildren.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Rosie Mae Tipton; and her two brothers, Ronald Edwards and Daney Edwards.

On July 2, 1959, she married James Ray Carter, who survives of the home; also surviving is her son, Tim Carter and wife Barbara of Thomasville; two grandchildren, Clint Carter and wife Becky and Emily Vazquez and husband Julio, all of Thomasville; and seven great-grandchildren, Bryson Carter, Alyson Carter, Elena Vazquez, Elijah Vazquez, Gaige Carter, Gavin Carter, and Shayla Vazquez.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at 4:00 PM at Faith Community Chapel with Rev. Jonathan Heath officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM.
