Mary "Thelma" Bowers Obituary

Mrs. Mary “Thelma” Hancock Bowers, 91, passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at Graybrier Nursing Home after a period of declining health. She was born on August 6, 1929 to Walter and Elsie Summey Hancock. She was a lifetime resident of the Hughes Grove Church Community. She was a longtime member of Hughes Grove Baptist Church and faithfully served the church for many years as treasurer and custodian. Thelma’s greatest joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Dwight Bowers (Kathy); two daughters, Wanda Bodenheimer (Michael), and Pauletta Creech; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, David and Bobby Hancock, both of Thomasville; and her sister, Martha Kindley of Marion.

On February 13, 1954 she married Avery Robert Bowers who proceeded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her son, Robert Bowers, and her siblings, Wade Hancock, George Hancock, John Hancock, and Treva Williams.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Hughes Grove Baptist Church in Thomasville. Mrs. Bowers will lie in state at the JC Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville on Friday from 12:00 to 6:00 PM for anyone to come by and pay their respects.
