Mr. Michael Dexter Kennedy,73, of Colonial Club Drive, passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at Select Specialty Hospital in Greensboro.

Mike was born on October 7, 1946 to the late Dexter Lee and Evelyn Mickey Kennedy in Greenville, SC. Mike was known for building race engines for many years in the NASCAR circuit. He was an avid pro-stock drag racer and was inducted in the NC Drag Racing Hall of Fame in 2014. He continued his passion for offshore fishing by spending his retired years being a charter captain. He was a hardworking, self-made man. Mike will be remembered for his love of family, fishing, and life. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Susan Rudd Kennedy of the home; two children, Cheryll Kennedy Varner (Derek Smith) of Wilmington, NC, Michael Blake Kennedy of Stuart, VA; two sisters, Susan Bullock and husband Jay of Atlanta, GA, Martha Romer and husband Paul of Scottsdale, AZ; two beloved grandchildren, Doyle and Owen Varner; extended family and numerous friends.
