Mitchell (Mickey) Lee Childers, Sr. Obituary

Mr. Mitchell (Mickey) Lee Childers, Sr., 83, of High Point, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at Atrium Health High Point Medical Center.  He was born January 19, 1940 in Davidson County, NC to Forrest Edgar Childers, Sr. and Lucy Mathis Childers.  Mickey graduated from Thomasville High School and attended Mars Hill College.  Mickey served 6 years in the US Army as a Specialist E5 Field Artillery Fire Control Specialist.  He retired in 2005 as president of Childers Concrete.  He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and served in many capacities in the churches he worshipped in over the years.  He served on the Davidson Prison Ministries Board of Directors and enjoyed making jewelry and giving it away, especially his Angel pins.  He enjoyed metal detecting, panning for gold, fishing, building ramps with the Baptist Men’s Ministries and most of all he loved spending time with his family and special friends.  He never met a stranger and always introduced himself as “Mickey like the mouse.”

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ann Nance; his brother, Forrest E. (Eddie) Childers, Jr.; and step-mother, Elizabeth P. Childers.

On November 24, 1963, he married Patsy Hoover, who survives of the home; also surviving in addition to his wife of 60 years is his son, Mitchell Lee Childers, Jr. and wife Melissa of Archdale; his daughter, Kelly Childers Vickers and husband Eric of Thomasville; “adopted son”, Long Tran of Seattle; grandchildren, Morgan Childers Colosimo and husband Clark, Colton Childers, Westin Childers, Adam Cranford and wife Anna, Emily Kearns and husband Chris, and Katie Wilson and fiancé Tyler Tison; great-grandchildren, Carter Cranford, Elle Cranford, and Ryan Smith; step-brother, Mack Padgett and wife Carol of Kenai, AK; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with Rev. Morris Little and Rev. Steve Jarvis officiating.  Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.  The family will be at the funeral home on Monday, November 20, 2023 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM.  Memorials may be directed to Trinity Baptist Church, 6499 NC Highway 62, Trinity, NC 27370.
