Nora (Idol) Smith

Mrs. Emma "Nora" Idol Smith, age 90, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026. Nora was born July 18, 1935 in Forsyth County, NC a daughter of the late Russell Cary Idol and the late Minnie Melissa Weavil Idol. A lifelong resident of Forsyth County she formerly worked for Dewey’s Bakery but took pride in being a homemaker taking care of her family. Nora was an active member of Friedland Moravian Church as part of the Women’s Fellowship, and serving as a diener. She was an amazing seamstress, enjoyed quilting and making prayer shawls. Nora was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Ellen Rogers, brothers, Staley Idol, Wade Idol, Marvin Idol, and Roger Idol; her sisters, Ruth Osborne, Maye Keeter and Marie Lambeth. On May 24, 1953 she married Aubrey Lee Smith who died January 25, 2026.

Those left to cherish her memory is her son, Daniel Smith and wife Lynn of Lexington, NC; her daughter, Joanna Shore of Winston-Salem, NC; grandchildren, Emily Shore of Indiana, Melissa Rogers of West Virginia, Russell Smith of Lexington, NC, Anna Shore of Winston-Salem, NC; great-grandchildren, David and Daniel Winebarger, Lucas, Leo, Logan and Layden Jones.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday at the Friedland Moravian Church with Pastor John G. rights officiating. Burial will be in the Friedland Moravian Church Graveyard. The family will greet friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Friedland Moravian Church, 2750 Friedland Church Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27107 or to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
