Pamela Kay Reid, age 79, joined her Lord and Savior on Monday, July 20, 2026. Pam was born on January 23, 1947 to G. Richard Reid and Jeanette Motsinger Reid in Winston-Salem, and lived most of her life here with her siblings:  Linda Reid Sweatman (Terry), Jerry Reid, and Rebecca Reid Underwood (Mark). 

Pam grew up at Samaritan Baptist Church, and enjoyed her time with members there.  She attended Union Cross Elementary School, and both Glenn Junior High School and East Forsyth High School in Kernersville.  Post-graduation, she attended Gardner Webb University and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.  Pam was a lifelong learner, and loved school.  Pamela was an aspiring author, having worked for a publisher in her youth.  She loved to read, write, play the piano, and teach young children.  During her career, she worked for John Blair Publishing, owned and operated Seven Seas Hotel and Oceanside Cottages in Kure Beach, and worked for Piedmont Medical Foundation, LADD Furniture, Adventureland Daycare, H & D Cabinetry, and Pegram Oil Company.

Pamela was known for her contagious smile, exuberant joy, and her pure and kind spirit.  She loved the beach, and was drawn to the Kure Beach area, where she lived for a time. Pam loved to spend time with family and friends, attending family gatherings, car rides with her youngest sister (who was her caregiver in later years), and a good meal-dessert was a must!  Pam was a celebrated cook in her family-her macaroni and cheese and chili recipes will continue to be enjoyed as part of her legacy.

She is survived by her children:  Tonia Maxcy (David) (f. Phil Thomas Lilly, m. 1968-1975) and Traci Dewalt (Seth) (f. Michael Carson Altman, m. 1979-2009) and grandchildren: Jacob, Tyler, Zachary, Elaine, and Kayla. Also surviving are her loving sisters Linda and Rebecca; her brother, Jerry, preceded her in death.

Pamela enjoyed time with her family, who lived nearby.  She grew up with her cousin Randy Reid (Constance) and loved his children:  Scott and Jeremy, and they remained close throughout her life.  Pam was blessed by her nieces:  Teresa Sweatman Angell (Spencer, [Harrison and Katherine]), Christi Michelle Reid [Shelby {Dawson and Hadley}], and Jennifer Leanne Sweatman (Tom). Her longtime friends and neighbors, RW and Cynthia Willard, also lived nearby and were devoted friends to Pam.

A service celebrating Pamela’s life will be held at J.C. Green & Sons in Wallburg at on Thursday, July 23, 2026.  The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 PM, prior to the service at 2:00 PM.  Pamela will be laid to rest at the cemetery at Samaritan Baptist Church.

The family is deeply grateful to Rebecca Reid Underwood, Pam’s youngest sister, for providing her with loving care during her last years of life.  In addition, the family would like to show gratitude to the staff at Trellis Supportive Care for the compassion and dignity shown to Pam in her last days.  Pam loved flowers, so we won’t say “in lieu of flowers”, however memorials to Trellis Supportive Care would also honor her. 

God made Pam to shine like the sun…we were all a little better by her side.
