Paul Holcomb Obituary

Mr.  Paul Alvin Holcomb, 92, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, surrounded by his family, at Trellis Supportive Care Kate B. Reyolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, NC.  He was born on April 3, 1932, in Forsyth County, to the late Claude Holcomb and Nancy Shermer Holcomb.  Paul was a 1950 graduate of James A. Gray High School and proudly served his country in the US Army, where he was deployed to Korea with the I Corps for 14 months.  Paul was a machinist and worked for Western Electric, Continental Can, Schlitz Brewery and RJR, where he retired after many loyal years of employment.  He enjoyed fishing at Cape Lookout and gardening, especially growing hot peppers.  He would proudly can them and share with his family and friends.  Paul was very supportive of his grandkids and would attend their sporting events to cheer them on.  He also enjoyed meeting his many friends to “shoot the bull” around Kernersville and Winston-Salem.

In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his loving wife of 35 years, Lois Young Holcomb; a sister, Jackie Tesh; and two brothers, Ted Holcomb and Lawrence Holcomb.

Left to cherish Paul’s memory are his four children, Cindi Taylor and husband, Mike of Southport, Paul Holcomb, Jr. of Greensboro, Clay Andrew Holcomb of Butner, Barbara Hedgecock and husband James of Kernersville; two sisters, Judie Holcomb-Pack, Jan Hooper; six grandchildren, Neil Johnson, Taylor Johnson, Caleb Hedgecock, Matthew Hedgecock, Joaquin Holcomb, Lila Mae Holcomb; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends around town.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, March 17, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Friedland Moravian 2750 Friedland Church Road, Winston-Salem, NC, with Pastor John G. Rights officiating.  The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10:00 AM at the church.  Memorials may be directed to Trellis Supportive Care 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or Friedland Moravian Church 2750 Friedland Church Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27107.  Online condolences may be sent to the Holcomb family at www.jcgreenandsons.com.
