Rachel Mae (Sipe) Herman

Mrs. Rachel Sipe Herman, 81, a resident of Thomasville, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2021, at the Hospice Home at High Point. On September 2, 1939, she was born in Taylorsville, NC, to the late James Hayden Sipe and Hester Duncan Sipe. Rachel was a graduate of Taylorsville High School. Rachel was in the accounting profession and retired from Cramer Wood Products of High Point. Rachel was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Thomasville and had a passion for helping her community. She helped form the first Girl’s Athletic Association of High Point, supporting soccer, softball, and basketball teams for girls. She coached all girls’ sports at Oakview Recreation Center. She helped with Cooperative Community Ministry. She was a member of Thomasville Womens Club and many other community organizations. Her hobbies included: sewing, baking, flowers, and watching Tarheel athletics. She was an avid Life Master bridge player. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her three brothers, Fred Sipe, David Sipe, and Paul Sipe. Rachel was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend; she will be greatly missed.

Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Robert P. “Bob” Herman of the home; one son, Richard Herman and wife Cheryl of High Point; two granddaughters, Sarah Herman and Caroline Herman; two brothers, Hayden Sipe and Robert Sipe, both of Taylorsville, NC; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Church in Thomasville, with Rev. Cassie Overcash officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262, or Victory Junction, 4500 Adam’s Way, Randleman, NC 27317.
