Rembert Martimore Hayes, 82 of Denton went home to be with Jesus Saturday, January 17, 2026 at Randolph Hospital.
Rembert was born August 25, 1943 son of the late Samuel Martimore Hayes and Estelle Coleman Hayes of Columbus County. He worked for many years at Thomasville Furniture and later worked in security for High Point University for 10 years. In his later years, Rembert enjoyed fishing and was a proficient skeet shooter wining several awards. He was an exceptional husband, father, grandfather, great, and great-great grandfather.
In addition to his parents, Rembert was preceded in death by two children Douglas and Martha Ann; a grandson, John Manly Gore IV; two siblings, Ronnie and Connie Hayes; a son-in-law, Ron Matzick.
Surviving are his wife of 64 wonderful years, Betty Marlowe Hayes of the home; four children, Stephen Dale Hayes (Norma Jean) of Columbus County, Connie Lynn Matzick of Thomasville, Lora Jean Porter (George) of Thomasville, Samuel Dean Hayes (Amy) of Lexington; seven grandchildren, Marie Gore, Stacey Emmons, Kimberly Nobles, Brittany Richardson, Bradie Hulin, Lindsey York, Karralee Hayes; twenty-two great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 21, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Jackson Creek Baptist Church in Denton with Pastor Josh Kepley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the church, 1637 Chapelwood Road, Denton, NC 27239.
