Reta Carolyn Garner Brewster, 80, of Thomasville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at Hinkle Hospice Home. Carolyn was born on June 9, 1946, in Davidson County to the late Robert R. Garner and Caroleta Adams Garner. She worked for many years as a seamstress at Kayby Mills and later retired from BrassCraft in Thomasville. Carolyn thoroughly enjoyed visiting the mountains. She loved reading the Farmer’s Almanac, gardening, canning, baking, and cooking for her family. Her kindness, dedication, and love for her family will be greatly missed by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Scovil and Zelma Adams, and Dawny and Alice Garner; and her sister, Brenda Loflin.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 55 years, Norman Elton Brewster of the home; her daughter, Tammy Phillips and husband, Ronnie; her brother, Mark Randall “Randy” Garner; her sister, Joetta Moore; her grandchildren, Dr. Cameron Phillips and wife, Lexi, and Dr. Matthew Phillips; and her great-grandchildren, Hansen Phillips and Leo Phillips; and her special dear friend, Pam Hornaday.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the chapel of J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville, with Rev. Steve Manley officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
