Rev. Bobby Ray Beck Obituary

The Rev. Bobby Ray Beck, age 90, passed away on Friday, June 25th, 2021 in Lexington, North Carolina. He was born in Thomasville, NC on April 3rd, 1931, to the late Coy Ervin Beck and Cynthia Blanche Beck (neé Kennedy).

Part of the seventh generation of Becks born on American soil, Bobby grew up on his family’s Unity Street farm in Thomasville, attending Prospect United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving as an MP in Miesau, Germany during the Korean War. After a brief stint in the furniture industry, he followed his calling and served for 33 years as a Methodist minister. During this time, he faithfully pastored 10 different churches all across the triad area and spearheaded multiple Holy Land trips. Bobby was a graduate of Duke University (Divinity School, 1967), Louisburg College (Associate of Arts, 1969), and High Point College (Bachelor of Arts, 1973). He received his preaching license from the Methodist Church in 1962, ordination as a Deacon in 1966, and ordination as an Elder in 1971.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Paul Coy Beck, sister Peggy Ruth Maness, sister Polly Ann Doby, and his wife of 68 years, Betty Jean Beck (neé Lomax). He is survived by two sons, Ferris Michael Beck and wife Josie, and Stanley Ray Beck and wife Lorie; four grandchildren: Christopher Michael Beck and wife Kristen, Jessica Leigh Mosley and husband Marlin, Cody Ray Beck and wife Kristina, and John Casey Beck; as well as five great-grandchildren: Cameron and Vivienne Beck, and Kendall, Myles, and Kellen Mosley.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the J.C. Green & Sons Chapel in Thomasville with Rev. Jenna Grogan officiating. Interment will follow the service at Johnsontown United Methodist Church cemetery. The family will greet friends Wednesday night from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
