Kenneth D. Dees, age 86, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Friday, October 27, 2023.
Born June 17, 1937, in Franklin County, Illinois, he was married to the first love of his life, the late Joyce Dees, for 64 years. They served together in the pastorate of ten different churches in Illinois, Missouri and North Carolina. He was an ordained bishop and pastor with The Church of God of Prophecy for 60+ years. Kenneth was a people person and loved helping and serving others as a hospital chaplain and taking groceries to those who were unable to get out on their own. He devoted his life to the Lord, his family and ministry and helping others at home and around the world. After retiring from the pastorate, he still kept active. He started a monthly newsletter titled “The Encourager” for seniors, in hopes of encouraging someone by the words and stories written. In 2020, he married Barbara Creasy Dees. They enjoyed sharing time together between their homes in Richmond, Kentucky and Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Although their time together was shortened by his unexpected passing, they enjoyed many wonderful times together. Kenneth enjoyed playing and watching golf, reading, camping and traveling all over. Many of his travels included stopping by to see family and friends from the various pastorates throughout his ministry time. Kenneth and Joyce traveled to all 50 states and many countries.
Preceding Kenneth in death are his parents: Carl F. Dees, Sr., Pauline Wall and stepfather, Leonard Wall; wife, Joyce Dees; son, Mark Dees; son-in-law, Tony Lane; sisters, Barbara Gardner, Belva Mabry and Carla Pastran; brothers, Carl Dees Jr., Clifford Dees and Calvin Dees.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Creasy Dees; daughters, Joy Lane and Gaye Kelley; son, Greg Dees; brother, Cecil (Christina) Dees. Kenneth was blessed with six grandchildren: Joshua (Joyce) Lane, Meagan Lane, Shawna (Jeremy) Pullen, McKayla (Garry) Schiesske, Tessa Kelley and Cheyenne Dees; eight great- grandchildren: Madison and Dawson Lane, Elijah, Sadira, Isaiah and Josiah Pullen and Kari and Maya Schiesske. He loved visiting and enjoying time together with his grands and great-grands and his children, too.
The Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 10:00 am Friday, November 3, 2023, from The Church of God of Prophecy (Life Impact), 5090 South Main Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27107 with Rev. Rick Brogdon, Rev. Tim Wolfe and Rev. George McLaughlin officiating. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with Sid Autry, Ralph Godfrey, Eddie Lambert, Joshua Lane, Dawson Lane, Tony Holder, Brian Lenich, Darin Lenich and David Kelley serving as casket bearers. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Thursday, November 2, 2023, at the church. In keeping with Kenneth’s love for missions (and he supported many), Casa Hogar Alfa y Omega orphanage in Poza Rica, Mexico was dear to his heart. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Church of God World Missions, P.O. Box 8016, Cleveland, Tennessee 37320 (note project #715-0130-343)
