Reverend Lawrence Major Obituary

Reverend Lawrence Edwin Major, 66, a resident of Linwood, NC passed away at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem on Monday, January 5, 2026.  He was born on March 11, 1959, in Wilkes-Barre, PA to his mother Dorothy White Major and father, the late Warren Major.  He was a member of Brushton Pilgrim Holiness church where he retired from in July 2025 and faithfully attended Piedmont Bible Church since his move to North Carolina. Major was an ordained minister of the Pilgrim Holiness Church of New York and pastored the following churches over the years:  White Haven God’s Missionary Church in PA, Tonawanda Pilgrim Holiness Church in NY (and during his tenure there, Welland Ontario Church in Canada), Haverhill Pilgrim Holiness in MA, Grand Gorge Pilgrim Holiness in NY (and during his tenure there, Scotts Patent Pilgrim Holiness Church in NY), and Brushton Pilgrim Holiness Church in NY.  During Major’s pastorates, he was very active in the Youth, Nursing Home and Jail ministries as well.  He drove a public-school bus for Salmon River School in Fort Covington, NY where he had a real ministry and impacted people’s lives for God. Major enjoyed camping and fishing with his family. He also enjoyed eating out at local restaurants with his family and friends.  On June 9, 1979, Major married Sharon Rose Hinderliter and they enjoyed over 46 years as husband and wife before his passing.  He was a devoted Man of God, husband, father, son, grandfather, brother and friend who will be dearly missed

In addition to his father, Major is preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald Major and Daniel Major.  

Surviving is his loving wife, Sharon Hinderliter Major of the home; his mother, Dorothy Major of Lehman, Pa; his son, Lawrence Major, Jr. and wife Brooke of St. Johnsville, NY; five daughters, Tanya Waterman and husband Daniel of Trinity, NC, Tricia Morford and husband Jeremy of Altamont, KS, Tina Vassar and husband Stacy of Massena, NY, Sheri Brewer and husband Jason of Thomasville, NC and Laura Decker and husband Shane of Thomasville, NC; his sister, Brenda Newhart and husband Mike of Lehman, PA; twenty-one grandchildren, Felicia Jensen and husband Josiah, Hannah Waterman, Josiah Waterman, Dennis Morford and wife Brianna, Brandon Morford, Elianna Morford, Kelsie Morford, Kylie Vassar, Alanna Vassar, Jordan McCallus, Victoria Brewer, Vanessa Brewer, Rebecca Brewer, Samantha Brewer, Jason Brewer, Jr., Landon Major, Mia Major, Carter Major, Jayda Paul, Quentin Paul and Noah Decker. 

A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Piedmont Bible Church 1117 W. Holly Hill Road, Thomasville, NC, with Rev. Barry Whitaker, Rev. John Whitaker, Rev. Aaron Paulus, Rev. Daniel Waterman and Rev. Jeremy Morford officiating.  Burial will follow at Faith Community Chapel Cemetery 345 Faith Chapel Road, Thomasville, NC. The family will greet friends on Friday evening, from 6 to 8:00 PM, January 9th at Piedmont Bible Church. 2 Timothy 4:7 “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.jcgreenandsons.com.
