Rickie Jarrett, Sr. Obituary

Rickie Jones Jarrett Sr., went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 20, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his beloved family and friends.

Rick was born in Thomasville, North Carolina, to John V. Jarrett and Frances Swaney Jarrett. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, whose life was filled with laughter, love, and simple joys.

He was known for his wonderful sense of humor and his ability to make those around him smile. More than anything, he loved his family with his whole heart—always present, always caring, and always proud.

Rick found peace and happiness in the outdoors. Whether he was fishing, camping, or spending time in the mountains, that’s where he felt most at home. Fall was his favorite season, a time he cherished for its beauty and calm. He also had a deep interest in computers and electronics, and he enjoyed working with his hands—fixing, building, or figuring something out.

He is now reunited with his parents and his two brothers, Donald and Julius Jarrett, and sister-in-law, Pat Hughes who preceded him in death—together again.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Peggy Sue Porter Jarrett, of the home; his children: Sherry Jarrett Powell (Travis), Rickie Jones Jarrett Jr. (Julie), Donya Jarrett Bailey (Jason), Brandon Jarrett (Crystal), and Michael Jarrett of the home.

He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jeremiah Boone Younts (Breanna), Sarah Y. Puih (Thun), Benjamin Luke Younts (Ashleigh), Thomas Logan Younts (Abby), Lori Meservey (Riley), Erik Meservey, Niyah Jarrett, Elias Jarrett, Jayden Baliey; and his great-grandchildren: Caleb, Mae-Lynn, Nathun, Eliza-Jane, Kelsey, Julianna, Noah, Hanna-Grace, Dallas, Jacquelyn, Hudson, Jettson, Makenna, Kolton, Oliver, Madi, and Paisley.

Rick is also survived by his brothers, Steve Jarrett (Janice) and Daniel Jarrett (Lynn); his in-laws, Junior Porter, Darlene Porter, Geradene Porter Petty (Dean), Terry Porter, and his brother-in-law, Richard Hughes (Pat); along with special friends Brandy Murphy, Paula Asher, Sabrina (Daniel), BJ and many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten by all who knew him.

A funeral service will be held Friday, April 24, 2026 at 2:00 PM at the J.C. Green and Sons Chapel in Thomasville. The family will greet friends Thursday night from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home and all other times at the family home.
