Rita (Hollifield) Hughes

Rita Hollifield Hughes, 64, of Thomasville passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at her residence.

Rita was born July 4, 1958, daughter of the late David Hollifield, Sr. and Mary Ann Sechrest Hollifield. Rita was a social butterfly and a friend to many.  She wore a contagious smile and kind heart.  Rita adored every one of her family members and cared for them deeply. She worked many years in Customer Service and was employed with FurnitureLand South. Rita lived her life to the absolute fullest. She enjoyed cooking, arts and crafts, and spending time with her family and friends. Rita made many memories throughout her lifetime. She will be dearly missed.

In addition to her parents, Rita was preceded in death by her brother, David Hollifield, Jr.; nephews, Andy Rife, and Eric Freedle.

She leaves behind the father of her children, Joe Hughes of Thomasville; two loving daughters, Amy Hughes of Thomasville, Stacey Hughes of Blowing Rock; a sister, Vickie Johnson of New Bern; a special niece, Bailey Freedle, two grandchildren, Mackenzie Deese and husband Brett Deese of Thomasville and Peyton Sheppard of Thomasville; a great-granddaughter, Paisley Deese; several aunts, uncles and extended family.  

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Holly Hill Memorial Park in Thomasville with Pastor Bynum Orr officiating. The family will greet friends at the J.C. Green and Sons funeral home in Thomasville prior to the graveside from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. Memorials may be given to the Humane Society of Davidson County.
