Robert Capps Obituary

Robert Hugh Capps, 83, of Archdale went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, June 13, 2025 at his home. Robert was born February 01, 1942 in Guilford County to the late Jimmy Monroe Capps and Lucille Myers Capps. He was a long-time member of Gospel Light Independent Freewill Baptist Church. Robert served his country in the United States National Guard. He worked many years at Fredrickson Motor as a Truck Driver. He loved flying his airplane, hunting, riding his motorcycle and boating. Robert had a great sense of humor and could always tell a good joke. His greatest joy in life was the time spent with his family and his beloved grandchildren. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Rev. Harold Capps.

Surviving is his loving wife of 51 years, Patricia “Pat” Taylor Capps of the home; two daughters, Debbie Phillips and husband Mike of Archdale and Sherri Shetley and husband Craig of Thomasville; one brother, Mark Capps of Lexington; five grandchildren, Dianne Angel and husband Wes of Thomasville, Jena Helms and husband Jordan of Lexington, Will Shetley of Thomasville, Luke Shetley of Thomasville and Phillip Shetley of Thomasville; also surviving are four great-grandchildren, Gavin, Tyler, Aly, Avery and one on the way. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, June 19,2025 at 12:00 PM at Gospel Light Independent Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. James Shetley and Rev Royce Stone officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Liberty. The family will greet friends prior to the service from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM at the church. Robert will lie in state on Wednesday June 18, 2025 from 12:00 PM until 5:00 PM at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville for those that would like to pay their respects.
