Robert Edward England Obituary

Mr. Robert England, a resident of Thomasville, passed away on March 21, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Thomasville, NC to the late George Everett England Sr. and Vernie Hedrick England on June 10, 1931.

Robert was a dedicated member and servant of Pleasant Grove Methodist Church throughout his lifetime.  He was in the US Army, Korean Conflict, and was awarded a Purple Heart for his valor, honor and courage serving his country proudly.

He was a skilled flooring and countertop contractor working until the age of eighty-four and continued to work at his church into his nineties.  He genuinely loved the golf game, being an avid golfer himself winning multiple tournaments and supporting fund raisers over the years with Hasty Lions Club, Civitan Club, Moose Club, High Point Shrine Club, and the H P G S Annual Open.  He was of an extremely competitive nature and often defeated the younger generation when placing bets for fun on the course.  He was a member of Winding Creek Golf Club for many years and played many courses near and far.  He enjoyed the challenge, the beauty, and being outdoors on each course he played.  He was an amazing cook known for his chicken and dumplings, potato salad, and pineapple cakes among other things.  Everyone was welcomed into his home for special family and holiday gatherings over the course of fifty plus years.  Robert loved everyone having many great times with family and friends.

He was dedicated to his loving wife, Faydean Beona Smith of 53 years, who has preceded him in death.  He was extremely dedicated to her care in the last years of her life.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by five siblings, Margaret Hunt, George England, Jr., Flossie Wishon, Mary Smith, and James England.

Robert is survived by his daughters, Melissa Praytor of Thomasville, Robin Davis, and husband Howard Davis Jr. (Kim) of Winston Salem, step sons, Carl Hayworth and wife Karen of Thomasville, Greg Hayworth and wife Barbara of High Point, and Bruce Hayworth of High Point, along with many grandchildren, great children, and great-great grandchildren.
