Robert Wayne Payne

Mr. Robert Wayne Payne, 86, of Thomasville, passed away on Monday, June 9, 2025 at Pine Ridge Health & Rehabilitation Center.  He was born on September 28, 1938 in Stokes County, NC to Thomas Ray Payne and Clarice Geneva Rierson Payne.  He was a US Army veteran.  He was a truck driver for the majority of his working life and attended Poplar Springs Church of God in Statesville, NC.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Griffin.

On February 14, 2005, he married Terry King Carriker, who survives of Thomasville; also surviving is his son, Chris Okarmus and wife Becky of Crestview, FL; step-son, Tony Ray Carriker, Jr. and wife Heather of Summerfield, NC; grandchildren, Matthue Okarmus and wife Christina, Raelyn Carriker and McKenzie Carriker; great-granddaughter, Nora Okarmus; niece, Pam Guyer of Oakwood, GA; nephews, Mike Griffin and wife Laura of Wallburg, NC and Marty Griffin and wife Jennifer of Kernersville, NC; and a special friend, who was like a son, Glenn Barefoot and his daughter, Glenna of Dunn, NC.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 423 Cecil Street, Thomasville, NC with Pastor Steven Newman officiating.   Military Honors will be provided by the NC National Guard Honor Guard.  The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM.
