Mr. Roger Steven “Steve” Swaney, 75, of Thomasville, passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at the Pine Acres Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation in Lexington. He was born on January 17, 1950 in Davidson County, Thomasville, NC to Boyd Gilmer “Jack” Swaney and Donnie Rae Kinney Swaney. He graduated from East Davidson High School, where he starred in baseball. After graduation, he attended Brevard Junior College on a baseball scholarship and he was an avid Wake Forest Demon Deacon fan. He was a member of Rich Fork Baptist Church and was a sales/manufacturing representative in the furniture industry for Hughes Furniture and Polyform in High Point and for Klaussner Furniture in Asheboro. He also partnered with his late daughter, Mindi, at the Monkeez Brew Coffee Shop in Thomasville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Mindi Shawn Swaney on December 25, 2013.
Surviving is his son, Monty Steven Swaney of New York; special aunt, Hilda Byerly of Thomasville; several nieces and nephews; and special friend and caregiver, Marcia Rich Gallimore of Thomasville.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 25, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Rich Fork Baptist Church with Pastor Michael Bowers officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday at the church prior to the service from 12:45 PM – 1:45 PM. Mr. Swaney will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the visitation. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association – Triad, 5001 S.
