Ruby Durham Jones, born July 31, 1930, in Davidson County, North Carolina, passed peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, during the early morning hours of Saturday, February 14.
She was the daughter of Troy George Durham and Lura Brown Durham. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 70 years, Robert Lee Jones (September 29, 2022); her son, Mark McCoy Jones (August 16, 2017); and her brother, Jadie Lee Durham (July 3, 2019).
Ruby married the love of her life, Robert Lee Jones, on March 10, 1951, and together they built a lifetime of cherished memories. She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Lee Morgan (Dan Epperson); grandchildren Wendy Sluder, Derek Morgan (Mitzi J. Morgan), and Keri Morgan; seven great-grandchildren—Dalton, Ashlyn, Mel, Kyia, Isabel, Ethan, and Jackson; and four great-great-grandchildren—Isaac, Amyrii, Morgan, and Korra Unique. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who lovingly called her “Mama Ruby.”
Ruby took great joy in the accomplishments of her family, especially hearing about Isabel’s move to Raleigh to begin her professional career in real estate, Ethan’s studies at Liberty University as well as his work at Lenoir Presbyterian Church, and Jackson’s bass fishing adventures and lively high school stories.
She attended Main Street High School and later graduated from Ashmore Business College. Ruby faithfully served as Office Manager for Brookdale, Inc. for 31 years before retiring.
A devoted woman of faith, Ruby was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church on East Sunrise Avenue. She was an active member of the Bertie Lloyd Bible Class, a lifetime member of the United Methodist Women Society, and served on the Administrative Board, Finance Committee, Audit Committee, and SPRC Committee. She was also a member of Woodmen of the World and a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary Unit #029.
Ruby will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her devotion to family, her excellent pound cakes, and the kindness she showed to everyone she met. Her legacy of love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 20, 2026 at 12:00 noon at the J.C. Green Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville, officiated by Rev. Chris Uren. The family will greet friends prior to the service from 10:30 to 11:45AM at the funeral home. Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at 1:30PM at Salisbury National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Wounded Warriors Project in memory of Ruby.
