Sandra Ellis Obituary

Sandra Kaye Leonard Ellis, age 76, of the Arcadia Community passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.  She was born on August 18, 1949 in Forsyth County to the late Davis Clayton and Ila Mae Nifong Leonard.  She was better known as Maw-maw or Sandy to all of her family and friends, and Nanny to Aiden, Oliver, and Davina. Sandra was a member of Mt. Pleasant Church in Thomasville where she enjoyed being involved in all activities including, sitting with the homebound, assisting with the homeless, making Angels for hospice, and telling anyone that listened the story of Jesus. She was a giver and shared her love for the community through her gift of cooking and baking.  In summer she enjoyed shopping for flowers and plants with her daughter, Amy, and in fall used her master talent of canning. Much of her working life was spent as a nanny and found joy in the caring for Aiden and Oliver for nearly 20 years, and loved them as her own.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rodney Ellis, and son, Brian Ellis.

Sandra is survived by a daughter, Amy Johnson and husband Marvin of Lexington;  grandchildren, Gracie Perryman (Tony), and Clayton Johnson (Karley);  great-grandson, Davis Johnson; and Kevin Johnson.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2026 in the Family Life Center at Mt. Pleasant Church, 6516 Old Greensboro Road, Thomasville, with Pastor Chris Clontz officiating.
