Shelby Jean Cranford Hampton, 88, of Thomasville passed away Friday, October 17, 2025 at Piedmont Crossing. Shelby was born November 27, 1936 in Davidson County to the late Jesse Frank Cranford and Thelma Godfrey Cranford. Shelby was a member of First Baptist Church of Thomasville. She worked 30 plus years as the executive secretary at Davidson County Community College. Shelby enjoyed shopping and cooking, but her greatest joy in life was the time and memories made with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, she will be greatly missed. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hollis Martin Hampton on November 16, 2001; two brothers, Charles Ray “Hoot” Cranford and Donald “Donnie” Eugene Cranford.
Surviving are her daughter, Susan Hampton Huneycutt and husband Woody of Thomasville; two granddaughters, Kristin Atwood and husband Preston and Kyndal Hubbard and husband Justin, all of Thomasville; one brother, Jesse Darold Cranford of Wills Point, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Lennon Hubbard, Nixon Hubbard, Rhett Atwood, and Indie Atwood; two step-great-grandchildren, Kaylee Atwood and Alyssa Atwood. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the amazing caregivers at Piedmont Crossing who cared for Shelby over the last few years. The love, care and dedication you showed her will forever be remembered.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, October 23, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Holly Hill Memorial Park with Rev. Michael Floyd officiating. The family will greet friends following the graveside service.
