Shirley Ann (Wood) Swicegood

Shirley Wood Motsinger Swicegood, 85, went to meet her Lord and Savior in Heaven on Monday. May 22, 2023 while at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center.  After a time of declining health, she has left this earthly place with a great testimony of transformation.  Her story will continue to change lives long after her passing.  Shirley was born on March 25, 1938 in Rockingham County, a daughter of the late James and Pearl Moore Wood.  She was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Thomasville.  Shirley loved to travel and go on cruises.  She worked hard and spent her life as a farmhand for the family, cooking and being a faithful mother and homemaker.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband and father to her children, Danny Motsinger; husband, Vilas Swicegood; and twelve brothers and sisters.

Surviving to cherish her memory and share her testimony is her three sons, Timothy Motsinger of Winston-Salem, Michael Motsinger and wife Janna of Stonewall, Oklahoma, and Douglas Motsinger and wife Susan of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Tyler Motsinger, Bridget Motsinger, Amanda Brinkle, and Anthony Skambato; six great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild to be; special niece, Paige Flinchum; and special nephew, J.W. Motsinger.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at Victory Baptist Church with Pastor Jim Vickrey officiating.  Interment will follow at Abbotts Creek Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:00 PM at the church, 280 Clodfelter Road, Thomasville and at other time at the home of son, Doug, 474 Danny Motsinger Drive, Winston-Salem. Memorial gifts may be directed to the Novant Health Foundation, Palliative Care Fund at 1701 S.
