Mrs. Shirley Thomas, 101 of Thomasville went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday June 21, 2020 at her residence. Shirley was born October 12, 1918 to the late Earlie Everhart and Tula May Sexton Everhart in Davidson County. She worked many years in the Textile Industry and retired from Carolina Underwear. She was a member of Hillside Park Baptist Church and loved her church dearly. Shirley was a dear saint of God and now is worshipping her Savior face to face. Shirley always had a smile on her face, a song in her heart, and a desire to tell others about Jesus. She was a faithful Sunday School teacher for many years, and worked with a local prison ministry, the “Yoke Fellows”. Shirley loved to admire Gods creation, watching birds, gardening, tending to her flowers and being outside. She loved her family to the fullest, and her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, brought her so much joy. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend; she will be greatly missed by so many. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Glenn Thomas; two brothers, James Everhart and Clifton Everhart; two sisters, Edna Walker Enscoe and Nova Dennis; one grandson, Randall Shane Thomas; one step-son Billy Ray Thomas; and one step-granddaughter, Donna Leonard.
Surviving is her one son, Ivey Thomas; three loving daughters, Audrey Hunt, Linda Jenkins and husband Aaron, Patsy Gilliland; one sister, Mary Bumgarner; eight grandchildren, Greg Williams (Tammy), Wendy Williams, Jodi Belue (John), Jack Thomas, Richard Jenkins( Amanda), Tracie Ward (Eddie), Amy Wilkie (Jerome), Randall Gilliland; six step-grandchildren, Jolynn Browning (Lawrence), Terri Stone (Terry), Andy Hunt (Tara), Anita Barbre (Neal), Wanda Kitchen (Gary), Sherry Shumaker (Chester); she leaves behind twenty great-grandchildren, thirteen step-great-grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren, fourteen step-great-great grandchildren; she also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, June 25, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Hillside Park Baptist Church in Thomasville with Dr. Steve Chipps and Rev. Ivey Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 1:00-2:00 PM, and at other times at the home.
