Mrs. Shirley Ann Miller Tobin passed away on January 25, 2026 at the age of 91 at Piedmont Crossing in Thomasville. She was born in Catawba County to William Clyde Miller and Myrtle Mataline Auman Miller on December 21, 1934. Shirley attended High Point schools.
She married Robert Henry Tobin in 1955 and moved to Thomasville. She worked in the cafeteria at East Davidson High School and retired to care for her husband until his passing in 2011.
Shirley was a faithful member of Bethel Global Church in Thomasville where she served as a children’s Sunday school teacher and later, a teacher of adult ladies of the Living Bible Class. She sang in the church choir and was a member of the Methodist Women, serving as historian of that group for many years.
A favorite pastime of Shirley’s was cooking. She enjoyed cooking Sunday lunch after church for her large family and often set a few extra places for friends who might join them. Everyone was welcome. When her health was good, she enjoyed walking three days a week at a local gym and it was a special treat for Shirley to attend meetings of the Thomasville Senior Club where her grandson, Cory, presided over the meetings.
Left to cherish Shirley’s faithful legacy are the people that she considered to be the greatest blessings of her life; her children and their spouses, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Smith and her husband, David; daughter, Sheila Myers, and her husband, Mark; son, Keith Tobin, and his wife, Cynthia; and son, Kemp Tobin, and his wife, Sue.
Shirley was also “Mamaw” to seven grandsons and their spouses: Josh Smith (Katie), Tyler Tobin, Daniel Smith (Kayla), Cory Tobin (Alex), Ben Smith, Adam Tobin (Kala) , and Nick Tobin. Great-grandchildren include Haiden, Teagan, Tinley, Ronni Kate, Griffin, Boone, Brady, Lilly, Adalyn, and Cece.
A funeral service officiated by Reverend Reuben Rinker has been rescheduled at Bethel Global Methodist Church on Fisher Ferry Street in Thomasville on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at 2:00 pm. The family will greet visitors before the service in the church Family Life Center from 11:30-1:45. Burial will follow the service at Holly Hill Memorial Park in Thomasville.
