Shizu Hunter Obituary

Mrs. Shizu Takazato Hunter, age 87, of Wallburg passed away at her home in her sleep early morning Monday, January 29, 2024. Born on Kumejima in the Ryukyu Islands, she was of Okinawan descent and the daughter of late Ushi (mother) and Seiijyo (father) Takazato. Married a U.S. Marine, Forest (Gene) Hunter in 1966.  Shizu was a U.S. Marine wife. Stood by and supported her husband and family throughout his military career no matter where stationed. From the many places she stayed (like Okinawa, WV, PA, MD, & NC), Shizu looked to make the best of the environment no matter the location. A great and supporting wife and mother.  She spoiled our family and was always there. Even when she started to decline, she was always still thinking of her family; wanting to make sure they ate, were okay, or had money for lunch even when her kids were all grown up. A kind soul who suffered with mental illness & Alzheimer's that at times it was hard for her but she always loved her family and during the last few years it was the family's turn to help take care of her and show our love and support we have for her.

Survived by her loving husband, Forest “Gene” Hunter of the home; son, Jim Hunter and wife Rhonda of Morehead City, NC; two daughters, Linda Schorstein and husband Vlad of Deluth, GA, and Teresa Frost and husband Kris of Charlotte, NC; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Kiku Sumiko Uehara, Fume, and Toshi; and one sister in heart, Maki Taimanglo.
