Stuart Hardin Wylie, 68, of Kill Devil Hills, NC, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.
Born on October 21, 1957, in Greensboro, NC, Stuart was the son of Gilbert and Joan Wylie.

Stuart is survived by his wife, Robin Wylie; his children and their spouses, Douglas and Elizabeth Wylie and Allison and Justin Finch; his grandchildren, Vivian Wylie, Wylie Finch, and Margaret Finch; and his brother, Steve Wylie.  He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Craig Wylie.

Stuart's relationship with Christ was the foundation of his life and a source of strength.  He was a Christ-like example for his family and served the Lord as a deacon and Sunday School teacher for his church community.  

Stuart was known for his dedication, craftsmanship, dry sense of humor, and perfectly timed witty remarks.

After high school, Stuart served in the US Marine Corps for 4 years before receiving an honorable discharge as a Staff Sergeant.  Following his military service, he received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and went on to work for Carolina Telephone and Duke Power.  Later, he pursued a Fine Woodworking career and entrepreneurial venture, making 18th Century Reproduction furniture, before returning to NC A&T to complete a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering.  His mechanical engineering education afforded him the opportunity to complete a fellowship with NASA and a successful career with Bechtel at the Savannah River Site and the Y-12 National Security Complex.  During "retirement", Stuart enjoyed serving the Outer Banks community through his role as the Aquatics Coordinator and Swim Coach at The Outer Banks Family YMCA.

Outside of work, Stuart enjoyed woodworking, gardening, all-things nerdy, swimming, and competing in endurance events including Ragner Relay Races and the Outer Banks Triathlon. When his children were young, Stuart would invest endless time and energy researching, coaching, chauffeuring, and cheering for his kids in each of their endeavors.

Stuart will be deeply missed and forever remembered as a loving and supportive husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026, at Memorial United Methodist Church in Thomasville, NC, with Rev. Danny Leonard presiding.
A Receiving of Friends will follow.

An additional Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at The Outer Banks Family YMCA.
