Sylvia Lackey Disher, 88, a lifelong resident of Thomasville, NC, passed away Friday, June 19 2026.
Sylvia was born September 17, 1937, daughter of the late Byan Wilson Lackey and Bertha Kennedy Lackey of Davidson County. She was known by many in the local area for being a longtime agent and bookkeeper for Citizens Insurance, with a career spanning over 60 years. In addition to her professional life, she was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Thomasville where she sang in the choir, was a former United Methodist Women President, and church treasurer. Sylvia lived a life of exceptional work ethic, going over and beyond to help others, and doing all things with grace and excellence.
In addition to her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Robert Disher, March 22, 2013.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Angela Bruce of the home, grandson, Ricky Bruce of Thomasville, brother, Johnnie Lackey and wife Sandra of Lexington, sister, Patricia Price of Thomasville, and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 2:00PM at the J.C. Green and Sons Chapel in Thomasville with Rev. Chris Uren officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park in Thomasville. The family will greet friends from 12:30 to 1:30 prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Huntington’s Disease Society of America, 505 8th Avenue, Suite 1402, New York, NY, 10018-6588, or ONLINE.
