Tamarah Baxter Obituary

In the quiet afternoon of Thursday, May 1, 2025, after an extended stay at Forsyth Medical Center, Tamarah LeConte Baxter departed earthly life and entered into eternal rest. Born on April 7, 1976, in Thomasville, NC, Tamarah was the cherished daughter of Willie Edward Baxter and Evelyn Sligh Baxter. To many, she was lovingly known as “Tam” or “Sistah Moon.” Tamarah was a devoted member of Parkside Church of God of Prophecy. From a young age, she gave her life to God and walked in faith with grace and purpose. During her youth, Tamarah became a passionate UNC Tar Heels fan and developed a lifelong love for sports. During high school, she was celebrated as an All-Conference Best All-Around Athlete, excelling in basketball, softball, and volleyball.

Tamarah was a proud graduate of Thomasville High School’s Class of 1994 and soon after discovered her true calling. She earned her license in natural hair care from Escofharis Holistic House, becoming not only a gifted and influential loctitian but also a pioneer and trusted guide for many in the natural hair community. As the founder and owner of Rainn’s Holistic Touch on Commerce Street in Thomasville, she poured her heart tirelessly into her work. Tamarah believed in caring for the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—drawing beauty from the inside out. Her very presence radiated love and light.

Deeply connected to African and Caribbean culture, Tamarah found joy in travel and exploration. Jamaica, in particular, became a second home to her—a place of refuge and renewal.

She was at peace in nature and had a special love for butterflies, which she saw as a symbol of life’s continuous transformation. Tamarah recognized that, just like butterflies, people can grow, evolve, and unfold into their truest selves.

Tamarah was preceded in death by her beloved son, Bless Baxter; her maternal grandparents, James and Daisy Sligh; her paternal grandparents, Theodore and Camilla Baxter; her aunt Elaine and husband, Bobby “Phil” Gordon.

She leaves behind her loving parents, Willie Edward Baxter and Evelyn Sligh Baxter; her devoted brother, Terrence LaMond Baxter, and his wife, J’Fai, of Richfield; a special goddaughter, Layla Steele of Thomasville; a stepson, Akin Robinson of Durham; and the following aunts and uncles: Robert Baxter, Sr., and his wife, Minnie; Preston Baxter and his wife, Daisy; Betty Lindsay and her husband, Otis; Wallace “Fred” Baxter and his wife, India; Rufus “Chris” Baxter and his wife, Gloria; Barbara Jean Whitaker and her husband, Mitchell; and Terry Baxter and his wife, Georgiana, of Clemmons, NC; and beloved nieces and nephews: Rainn Daisy Baxter of Richfield, Jairez Baxter of Thomasville, Muhammad Alami of Richfield, and J’Bria Colson of Richfield.

Tamarah’s circle of love extends to many dear cousins, including Patrice Baxter of High Point; Natasha Gill and her husband, Brent, of Greensboro; Tonya Palmer and her husband, Andre; Shonda Baxter and Wesley Small; Christie Melton Taylor; Karissa Wilkins and her husband, Christian; Shannon Nicole Baxter; Jasmine Baxter; and Jeriod Baxter, all of Thomasville. She also shared a lifelong bond with her dear friend Sherry McCurdy, in addition to close friends Kahalilah Coleman and Adria Skeen Watkins, and her husband, Terrance, of Thomasville; and devoted travel partner Donna Brown-Baxter.

Tamarah’s radiant smile, joyful spirit, and unwavering authenticity will be deeply missed. She touched many lives through with her fierce love, steadfast loyalty, and genuine care. Her presence enriched others lives, and her legacy of kindness, strength, and beauty will live on in us all.
