Thomas (Tommy) Woodrow Isley Obituary

Mr. Thomas (Tommy) Woodrow Isley, 78, of Lexington, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at his home.  He was born on September 13, 1945 in Alamance County, Graham, NC to Clarence Woodrow Isley and Billie Mae West Isley. 

In his earlier years, 1960 – 1964, he was a drummer with a Rock n Roll band called The Travellers.  He proudly served two enlistments in the US Army as Medical Specialist 1964 – 1967 and Special Forces Green Beret 1977 – 1981, being honorably discharged with Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Parachute Badge.  He graduated from Cincinnati School of Mortuary Science under the GI Bill.  He had a long career in funeral service with Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington and later retired after more than 27 years from J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville.  Tommy was a member of Lifepoint Church and loved reading, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Isley.

On June 18, 1983, he married Gail Podgaysky, who survives of the home; also surviving is his son, Scott Isley and wife Christy of Rockwell, NC; daughter, Amy Martin of the home; brother, Philip Isley of Salisbury; grandchildren, Erica Isley and fiancé Tim Cole, Lani Isley, Hannah Isley, Riley Isley, Cameron Mullinax, Chloe Mullinax, and Zaylen Martin; great-grandson, Roman Cole; many special neighbors, who were like family; and the Amazing Mazie, who was by his side until the very end.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2024 at 4:00 PM at Lifepoint Church with Rev. Nathan Becker officiating.  The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 2:30 – 3:30 PM.  A Private Family Inurnment with full military rites will be held at a later date at the Salisbury National Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to Lifepoint Church, 424 E. 9th St. Lexington, NC 27292 or Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.
