Thurman was passionate about sharing the gospel of Jesus. In the early days of their marriage, Thurman and Barbara, along with their daughter Karen, would travel and sing. He and his wife were devoted to traveling around doing evangelistic ministry, singing and preaching the Word of God throughout their marriage. He loved playing his guitar and later in life learned to play the piano. More recently, he took up bird-watching and fine art coloring. He liked old westerns and comedies. Thurman enjoyed deep-sea fishing with his brother Charlie and never turned down an opportunity to go with his son Travis out on the Jon-boat, where they laughed and made loads of fond memories. He was the jolliest, kindest, most compassionate person, who never met a stranger. Thurman was loved by all!
